The Green Wave drowned out the University of Maine Black Bears final score of 38-7. Tulane University fans flooded Yulman Stadium this past Saturday to support the Green Wave for their first ever match up against the University of Maine football team. When comparing Tulane’s total of 205 rushing yards to Maine’s 96, it’s quite evident to identify who was “running” the gridiron. First quarter scoring plays included the Black Bear’s only scoring play of the game, a touchdown and kick, later followed by a 23 yard field goal made by Tulane’s Andrew DiRocco. Tulane ended the first quarter trailing Maine but then decided to maximize their effort in the second. The Green Wave’s Lazedrick Thompson made the first of three touchdowns made by Tulane in the second quarter. With 7:38 on the clock, Sherman Baddie made a 56 Yard Run for Tulane’s third scoring play of the game. Quarter Back Teddy Veal threw a 39 yard pass to Tanner Lee to complete the Green Wave’s touchdown trio in the quarter.
After a busy first half and pushing through the third, Tulane lead was up 24 -7. Dontrell Hilliard scored another touchdown for the Green Wave and DiRocco was summoned to the field once again to nail the extra point. Finishing up Tulane’s scoring plays for the night, Dontrell Hilliard made an 85 yard run into the end zone for a touchdown and DiRocco’s made his final successful point after for the night. The momentum from this week’s Maine game will definitely carry over into the Green Wave’s next match up against the University of Central Florida. This will be Tulane’s first American Athletic Conference matchup of the season and it’s bound to cause a splash knowing that it’s in the Wave’s own stumping ground. Coach Curtis “CJ” Johnson mentioned in this past week’s post-game interview that, “it feels good to execute something you work on all week”. After Tulane’s upcoming bye week, we anticipate the Wave’s next task, which is to dethrone the UCF Knights once they make their way down to meet the Green Wave from the Crescent City.
