Another Tough Loss for the Colonels

This year has certainly been a tough year for the Nicholls State Colonels, who are currently last in the Southland Conference with an overall record of 0-10 and 0-6 in Southland play. This weekend the Colonels took on the Incarnate Word Cardinals for their 2014 homecoming game. Unfortunately, the Colonels were unable to pull out a homecoming win and lost to the Cardinals 38-20. This marks the 16thstraight loss for the Colonels dating back to last season. However, even though the Colonels did not break the streak and get a win they did show that they are a team that can turn things around. Senior Quarterback Beaux Hebert had a career high 209 yards passing going 16-of-29 and 1 TD. The Colonels tallied a total of 315 offensive yards in this game against the Cardinals. Junior Running Back Michael Henry showed a lot of potential for the future in this game with 96 yards rushing on 20 attempts with 1 TD. Senior Wide Receiver Demon Bolt led the Colonels receivers with 70 yards on 3 receptions. The amount of penalties that were thrown the Colonels way is what really hurt the Colonels in this game. The Colonels generated a season high of 12 penalties for 107 yards in this game. The Colonels defense really stepped it up in this game generating 3 turnovers for the second time in as many home games. It truly is upsetting that the Colonels have been unable to generate a win this season, but the way that the Colonels played this game provided some hope for the future of this program. The rest of this season certainly won’t be easy for the Colonels but they do get a crucial bye week rest before they have to travel to Northwestern State on November 15. GO COLONELS!!!
