St. Augustine continued its strong start to the 2026 season Friday night, traveling to Destrehan and delivering a statement performance in a 42-13 victory over the Wildcats.
The Purple Knights entered the matchup with plenty of confidence after opening the season with a convincing 46-0 shutout of McDonogh 35. Destrehan also came in unbeaten after defeating St. Paul’s 35-14, setting the stage for an early-season matchup between two programs with championship pedigree.
St. Augustine quickly established control and never allowed Destrehan to settle into the game. The Purple Knights’ offense repeatedly found ways to move the football and turn possessions into points, while their defense kept the Wildcats from mounting a sustained comeback. By the final whistle, St. Augustine had built a 29-point advantage and improved to 2-0.
The victory was especially impressive considering the level of competition. Destrehan has won five state championships and has long been one of Louisiana’s premier programs. The Wildcats were also playing at home, making St. Augustine’s 42-point performance even more significant.
With the victory, St. Augustine moves to 2-0 and turns its attention to East Ascension next week. The Purple Knights will return home for that matchup, looking to remain unbeaten and build on an impressive opening stretch.
For Destrehan, the loss drops the Wildcats to 1-1. They will look to bounce back next week against West Jefferson and regroup before district play arrives.
