Dutchtown continued its strong start to the season Friday night, defeating St. Michael 41-21 behind a dominant offensive performance and a defense that consistently created turnovers.
Dutchtown took control early and led 28-6 at halftime. Quarterback Owen Fletcher, No.8, was a major part of the Griffins’ success, rushing for 96 yards and four touchdowns on just 11 carries. He also completed 11 of 22 passes for 188 yards.
The Griffins’ defense made its impact as well, forcing five fumbles and limiting St. Michael’s rushing attack to just 2.1 yards per carry. Dutchtown also scored on special teams when Marcello Rizzuto, No.1, returned a blocked punt 24 yards for a touchdown. Kameron Hood, No.21, helped create the play by blocking the punt.
Although Dutchtown controlled the first half, St. Michael showed fight after halftime. Boogie Levingston, No.3, connected with Joseph Bourgeois, No.0, for a 68-yard touchdown, while Deonte Camel, No.2, added a two-yard rushing touchdown. The Warriors continued to battle despite the large deficit.
Dutchtown answered with two second-half field goals to help keep control of the game and secure the 41-21 victory.
With the win, Dutchtown moved to 3-0 on the season. The Griffins’ combination of a strong rushing attack, opportunistic defense and special teams plays proved to be too much for St. Michael to overcome.
