A couple of days ago, LSU got a huge addition to their 2027 recruiting class by grabbing a commitment from the number one running back in the state of Louisiana in Franklin Parish High School (Winnsboro, LA) four-star Trey Martin. The top 10 nationally ranked running back chose the Tigers over other SEC schools like Florida and Ole Miss. For him, being able to be close to home and his family was the biggest goal when it comes to his commitment.
“My decision was really based on what was best for me and my family. I want my family and community to be able to drive and support. Baton Rouge is only a little over two hours from Franklin Parish.”

The 6’0, 200 pound running back has all the tools to be the next great Tigers running back as he has size, speed, vision, balance, strength, and the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield.
“I am a running back that’s a leader, a physical running back, and a running back that’s very coachable.”

Being an in-state running back and getting to play for LSU, which is a program that has produced great running backs in the past like Leonard Fournette, Kevin Faulk, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, and others just to name a few is also a dream come true for Martin.
“It’s always a dream as a kid to put on the legendary purple and gold. It’s something me and my friends have dreamed about. To actually be close to living it is shocking.”

LSU has targeted Martin for some time as running backs coach Kevin Smith has built a great day to day relationship with him. That communication played a key role in solidifying that commitment.
“My relationship with the coaching staff has been great. It’s been almost daily talks with me and Coach Smith. I understand what he wants and the standard he’s set.”

When it comes to on the field, Martin is also really confident of what he can bring to Lane Kiffin’s offense as it is very similar to what he runs at Franklin Parish.
“Their system is about 95% our system we run here at Franklin Parish under our head coach Adrian Burnette so it’s very familiar to me. I’m excited about it.”

Martin is also excited about his senior season with the Patriots. Last season, Martin helped the Patriots win nine games by rushing for 1,310 yards and 26 touchdowns on 115 carries. He would like to leave his mark by guiding Franklin Parish to the Superdome after being so close of reaching there the last couple of seasons.
“Our goal is to make it further than we did! I really want to bring a state championship to Franklin Parish and the only way we can do that is TEAMWORK!”

While Martin has already accomplished most of his goals, his main focus is to improve not only his game, but his leadership skills.
“What I’m working on is being more vocal. Attribute wise, I’m constantly working on speed and cuts.”

Kevin Smith’s running back room is already pretty full with six scholarship running backs and two other commits in the 2027 class. Martin is not threatened about the competition and is excited about his teammates pushing him to be his absolute best.
“I haven’t had a chance to speak with the other running back commits year, but I’m sure we are all ready to compete. That’s what it’ll take for us to be the best backfield in college football.”

Now that Trey Martin has committed and ready for his senior season, his upcoming goals when he arrives on campus are to get established, pursue his education, and do what he does best, which is run the football.
