Energy was palpable in Strawberry Stadium in Hammond this Saturday for the Southeastern Lions’ first home game of the season. Kickoff was at 7 p.m. and the game was off to a quick start. SLU started their second game with confidence after their win last week against the Northwestern Demons.
Three minutes into the first quarter, Harlan Miller caught his third interception of the season, placing the ball in the Lions’ possession. Just two minutes later, Defensive End Solomon Parker recovered a fumble and ran the ball seven yards for the first touchdown of the game. Southeastern’s defense would score another touchdown with 5:44 left in first quarter. However, the Florida Tech Panthers (FIT) gained control later on in the quarter scoring a field goal and a touchdown. In the second quarter, the Panthers put themselves ahead 17-14 after Josh Denton rushed for one yard and scored a touchdown with 9:29 left on the clock. 
It wasn’t until the fourth quarter that either team would score again. Southeastern’s Xavier Roberson scored the first touchdown of the second half and put SLU ahead 21-17. This was the only touchdown made by the offensive line, who was left hindered after starting quarterback, D’shaie Landor, left the game early due to injury. Southeastern would score one more touchdown finishing the game 28-17 and improving to 2-0 for the 2015 season. Overall, the Lions had 5 sacks, two of which were accredited to Aaron Price. Head coach Ron Roberts told the press, “Our defense stepped up and made some big plays tonight, and that was the difference.” 
Next week, Southeastern is set to play the Ohio Bobcats in Athens, Ohio on September 19. Kickoff will be at 1p.m.
